Madelyn Brooke

On 01/07/10, shortly after writing my last post, I started bleeding and called Dan to come home to take me to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital & they confirmed that I was in early labor & having a lot of contractions that to me felt like a mild back ache and mild menstrual cramps at that time. My contractions were not regular but due to my blood pressure running high and the bleeding, they admitted us to the hospital and started me on pitocin to try to regulate the contractions. My labor was pretty easy for a first baby - I was in labor at the hospital for about 12 hours and went from being 1 centimeter dilated to 8 centimeters the next time they checked me. I had back labor because Madelyn was "sunny side up", which unfortunately is one of the hardest ways to deliver a baby. At 9 centimeters I couldn't take it anymore and asked for an epidural, which was not as bad as I had feared. I pushed for about an hour and a half and they finally used the vacuum to assist in her delivery. Dan was in absolute awe after the birth & I just remember him saying "that's the coolest thing I have ever seen" after Madelyn was out. He then kind of wandered around in awe for a little while. I am very glad I have Dan, he was a great comfort and support to me during the delivery & was in it to win it with me. When they would tell me to take a breath , head down and push Dan would do it right along with me while he was holding my leg. After the delivery my blood pressure was still high - 160/100 at one point, so they put me on Magnesium sulfate to try to lower it and prevent seizures. We were released from the hospital on 01/09/10.
Anyway, Madelyn is absolutely beautiful and perfect & we are so in love with her! It has been quite an adjustment having a new little one to take care of, but we wouldn't change anything for the world.
